It’s been 5 years since the Promise Zone initiative was created by the Obama administration. One of the major benefits of the initiative come in the form of the preference points available when non-profits located in the Promise Zone apply for federal grants. Thus far we have awarded 25 different entities serving the Promise Zone with certification letters, which in turn impacted thousands in the community.
A great example of the Promise Zone preference points at work is when IDEA Public Schools received funding through the Department of Education. Since its original award date in 2016, it has funded educational programs to get students college bound ready and this year, IDEA Carver, one of the IDEA schools, will graduate its first senior class where 100% of students are expected to be accepted and matriculate to college.
A great resource for grant-seekers is grants.gov, which system houses information on over 1,000 grant programs. SAGE also hosts a yearly Non-Profit Funding Symposium to give insights on resources available to non-profits located within the Eastside Promise Zone and all over the city. The non-profits that participate gain insight on how to access funding availability from local, public and private partners.
Below is information about the process to get preference points for your grant and leave a lasting influence in the Promise Zone.
