The Value of Neighborhood Associations

Oftentimes residents, especially those living in under-served communities, don’t feel their voice is being heard by those in power. Through my service in AmeriCorps, I’ve learned what an invaluable asset neighborhood associations are to the community! Many times you can find representatives from federal, state, county and city offices attending neighborhood association meetings. They’re seeking feedback! They want to know what issues and concerns community members have.

Neighborhood associations are also a great way for community members to gather and tackle the issues in their neighborhoods as a collective. Two is better than one! For example, in one neighborhood association they teamed up with Snack Pak 4 Kids to make sure no child at a neighborhood school went hungry during the weekends.
